Read the NYT and USA Bestseller that started it all....

“All my life I’d always known what the Gentry boys were. A set of fraternal triplets born to a depraved family, they were rough, sexy and wild as wolves."

SAYLOR…
I don’t even know if love is real. After running from the bastard who brutalized me, I limped back to Arizona, choosing a vibrant college town in the hopes of starting over. I never expected to find him there.
Cord Gentry.
He and his brothers were tough, lusty forces of nature I’d known since childhood. Years ago, Cord seduced me as a sick game. I’ve hated him ever since. Now here he is again, a man who beats other men bloody for money.
Cord has always been heartless, dangerous, not to be trusted.
And I want him so much I can’t think.

CORD…
They called us ‘those white trash Gentry boys’ until we believed that’s what we were. Our people squatted at the edge of a hellhole prison town for generations. The childhood we endured was the stuff of nightmares. I’d learned early on that my brothers, Chase and Creed, were the only people on earth worth my time.
They all told us we were bad, that we’d always be bad.
The horrors of the past have scarred my soul.
But now I need to be better.
For her.

‘Draw’ is the first of the Gentry Boys series, however this New Adult Romance novel may be read as a stand alone.

Cover: Is ok...
Cliffhanger: Nope, but the series continues

Is really hard for me to review this book. I'm usually a chameleon and i enjoy mostly every genre that involves romance whether is paranormal, contemporary, etc, etc. But this one i wasn't able to relate to any of the characters.

Saylor was annoying in my opinion. She is fleeing from an abusive boyfriend and suddenly she has another one? *raises eyebrow*. Then, she hates this guy, for obvious reasons, and oh, our of the blue she can't keep lusting after him? Uhmmm...i wouldn't do that, it would take me months of getting to "know" this person again and him apologizing not once not twice but several for his behavior. But hey, what do i know?

Cord, i get his childhood, why he acted the way he acted, doesn't excuse it, but i understand at some point. And if he is trying to be better, to break the mold in which his whole family and ancestors have been cast, then you show her how you are better now, how you were angry at the world but regret what you did and you seduce her, not just with words but with everyday actions.

This book just wasn't for me...

DRAW Gentry Boys #1 edition by Cora Brent Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was a very gritty, unputdownable story that had me hooked from start to finish. It is not an easy read and it made me laugh, cry and get angry but ultimately it made me feel. There are a number of reviews already so you know it's an NA and the first book in a series about the Gentry triplets. Bad boys with a rough background trying to make something of their lives.

+++Spoilers+++
In this the H had taken the h's virginity as part of a bet with his brothers. He deceived her, humiliated her and then his brother told everyone about it. I can't imagine a worst 'first time' for a girl. Years later these 2 meet up again and I'm at a loss to describe how it all happens but they do end up in a very real relationship. There's loads of sex and bad language and big chunks of reality. I will say that the H does let the h down and it made me mad. I also don't think he apologised properly for what he'd done to her as a teenager. In fact his other brother apologises better to her. In the end though I suppose it is part of a very good story with imperfect characters.

I'm hooked and can't wait for the next one
Draw was the first book in the Gentry Boys series by Cora Brent. It was also my first book by the author.

Cord Gentry was a triplet. I loved the bond between the three. They had endured a horrific childhood and although they found their way out of their small town, they were still barely getting by, but they had each other. They were all gorgeous in their own way with loyalty to each other as their foundation.

Saylor McCann grew up with the Gentry boys and it wasn’t pretty. She had a humiliating incident with Cord, which was one of the major reasons she fled Emblem, AZ upon high school graduation. Unfortunately her judgement in boys/men wasn’t any better in college and she ended up back in AZ upon her college graduation. Her life was on a continuous downfall, but she found temporary solace with her cousin/best friend since birth until she could get on her feet.

I struggled with the first two chapters and anyone with abuse triggers will too. There was nothing good about those chapters except they set the stage by explaining the past so we could get to the present and future. Brent still explored the past as the storyline progressed, but the focus was on a better life.

Draw was told with a dual POV so we were able to get at the heart of both Cord and Saylor. I loved the second chance premise while also overcoming poverty and town judgement. It was entertaining and heart breaking at the same time. The plot was well developed but there were numerous editing errors that detracted from the writing. Otherwise, it was a fairly fast read and enjoyable.

Additionally Brent set the stage well for the series. I fell in love with the Gentry’s - brothers and cousins alike - their hearts, loyalty, unique personalities and all of their imperfections. I can’t wait for each story, but Brent left a pretty big hole in the plot that I expect to be filled in with Creed’s story next in Risk. I can’t wait!
I love the feeling, when you're about 10% into a book by an author new to yourself and you realize,"This person can actually write!" It makes trudging through dozens of experiments from authors that can't sort of seem worth it. Especially when it's a free book. This was an endearing basic HEA romance with developed characters that resonated for me. Nothing starling or new in terms of plot. A boy who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in a tired small town reconnects with the girl from his past that was smart enough to get the hell out of there too. Their developing love helps heal emotional wounds that they both carry, her goodness overriding his bad boy issues. I'm sure you've read this story before in multiple forms. It's good writing that made it stand out for me. Although the last third of the book drug out too long, you know what's going to happen at that point, well crafted small moments and poignant dialogue still sets this apart from the pack. I'll be reading the next 2 in this series.
