The Harvest Taken The Harvest series Book 1 edition by MA Church Lou Harper Literature Fiction eBooks

We are not alone. In the year 2050 mankind’s never-ending quest for proof life exists in the universe is answered—in the form of massive space ships that appear without warning above the capitals of all major nations. The name of their planet is Tah’Nar—and is dying. The United States sets up a lottery system, and each young man between the ages of twenty-three and twenty-eight is assigned a number. Once a year, for the next five years, numbers will be drawn and a new set of one thousand males will be collected. The media coined the expression ‘The Harvest’ for when the Tah’Narian’s collect these young men.
Captain Keyno Landium Shou is a Tah’Narian starship captain who has been granted the right to take a mate, any mate, he wants during the last harvest on Earth. Dale was seventeen when the aliens first appeared. His parents assumed he’d be safe since the final collection would be done before he turned twenty-three. He didn’t fall within the guidelines established, so they took for granted he had nothing to fear.
They were wrong.

I enjoyed the book and looked forward to reading the sequel. Dale was always getting into trouble and causing changes by accident. I only wish that like so many other MM books that there was more focus on telling the story than graphic depictions of sex every few pages. I am not a prude, but sometimes I find myself skipping over the sex because after a while it becomes redundant and repetitious. I don’t mind reading it but having the same scenario over and over is a fault of a majority of MM novels. I want the technology, description of the ships, planets and development of characters. With that said I still enjoyed both books and would like to see a third one in the series.Thank you for taking time to read my review, I know you're time is limited and hope that I provided you with some useful information. The Harvest Taken The Harvest series Book 1 edition by MA Church Lou Harper Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved the original version. Yes, I admit some of Dale's reactions or lack of needed to be changed but... I think it could have been done without it being butchered. They cut out good parts and didn't update what was left so some of it seems kinda choppy ex. Dale pulled out a table chair to talk to K, so how in the next paragraph K was pulling Dale off the bed for them to get ready to go eat. Then things ended up being repeated. It's not the same feeling I got from the first. Some of the paragraphs felt like a robot was telling the story instead of the original Dale. There should be away that both books are available for sale and combined. Then we the readers can add back the part we want. I'm just glad I didn't delete the original. Now when my neighbor asks why I don't delete books I'll tell her. The only problem is I bought the orig through barns and noble.
This book is so good, I have written the author and said it should be made into a movie! The story starts out a little rough, you want to thwap Keyno in the beginning. Keyno is the Alien in this book. He is a cross between a cat and a human, complete with tail. The second character who is the focus for most the storyline is Dale. Dale is a hot-head, and this gets him into some trouble. Eventually they do sort things out, but Dale still manages to say things off the top of his head. This book contains some funny as well as some sad. Its action packed. I couldn't put it down. I high recommend it.
Some confusion for me.
So, the aliens are apparently all "manly" men. And the humans, and other, species who are now wombs are "womanly".
Were all the original ones who dies womanly/feminine? Did the virus only target feminine aliens?
Since the supposition is that the aliens are, or were, hermaphroditic in nature why the huge emphasis on masculine and feminine.
I get this is not a thinking person's book...but still.
All assigned roles, if you look past the supposed gender are clearly defined heteronormative male and female. Boring.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last. I really enjoyed her writting, the characters, the plot, everything. Everything except the fact that she needs a far better editor. In my opinion, and the opinion of many other book lovers out there, reading is about escaping to another place, life, story. Going somewhere different for awhile, but when I run into sentences that are missing words, words are missed placed or missing letters it's like hitting a pothole on my journey into the story being told. It completely jars me out if the story line as I figure out what the word was supposed to be, or how the sentence was supposed to flow etc. There was actually an entire paragraph that was repeated. That's just very poor editing. I feel like the book should get a 4 star rating because of the bad editing, but I liked the book to much to do that.
Pleae, please, please M.A. Church get a better editor so that we can fully appreciate your wonderful writing.
In the year 2050 humanity finally gets incontrovertible proof of alien life when large ships appear over several major world cities. The ships belong to the Tah'Narians, an advanced race of cat-like humanoids. Although they possess sophisticated technology, the Tah'Narians have lost the ability to reproduce, so they have come to earth to “harvest” young males with whom to mate and have young, after a little genetic modification. Faced with the obvious technical superiority of the Tah'Narians, the world governments agree to set up a lottery to decide which men will be enlisted to go with the aliens when they return each year. Dale is a few weeks below the minimum age of 23 when the current harvest begins, so he thinks he is safe. He couldn't be more wrong.
“The Harvest Taken” may sound like a typical kidnapped-for-sex-slave story, but it largely succeeds in being a quite different kind of book. The Tah'Narians really are looking for mates — as in true life partners — and not just brood hens to produce young. Exactly why they agree to the awkward way men are taken is perhaps a bit of a plot hole, but then these days it's sadly all too believable that our government would go about things in the most ham-fisted way possible.
Regardless of the true nature of the plot, a key issue for many readers will be the believability of the turning point in Dale's attitude; when he stops railing against the way in which his life has been changed and begins seeing his new mate Keyno as something other than just his kidnapper. I think the story pulls this point off fairly well. Dale resists, argues, plots escape, and goes through all the phases of attitude you would expect, without seeming whiny or like a helpless heroine in need of rescue.
The story is told entirely from Dale's point of view, and introduces a number of characters that I now know will play parts in both series. There are, in effect, a number of sub-plots in the main story line. While this could potentially be confusing, the threads are woven together quite well, and help to move the whole story arc along at a fast pace. That fast pace has been a hallmark of both series, and while it has made for some late nights from refusing to put the books down, it's not something I can really find fault with.
